SqueezEast 14th June 2026

Slideshow accompaniment - Medley of tunes from the day

There is nothing better, apart perhaps from eating cake, than listening to a 42 musician concertina band playing super tunes, ably sourced and arranged by our band leader Paul Barrett.
It was a truly glorious sound made by people who worked hard on their individual parts for bass, baritone and treble Anglo, English and Duet concertinas. Thank you to all our participants and the organisers and helpers for making the event so enjoyable.

People attended from all around the country, some traveling long distances to join us for the day. We must also say thank you for all the delicious cakes which everyone enjoyed eating. The raffle was well supported with numerous prizes donated by attendees. It raised important funds for SqueezEast Concertina to continue our aim of promoting concertina playing in the region.

The eight tunes we worked on provided something for all tastes and the excellent recordings of these can be heard below. Many of us knew Jenny Cox, who died last year, so we particularly enjoyed Paul's tribute to her with his arrangement of Nobody Loves a Fairy When She's Forty.

Stilton Pavillion has excellent acoustics, a central location and a good range of facilities. We look forward to making more music together there again on 13th June 2027. There will be cake!

Turn on (and off) each player in turn to hear some of the tunes we learnt during the day.
