SqueezEast 8th June 2025

Slideshow accompaniment - March from Scipio by Handel and Slaidburn by Rimmer
Arranged by Paul Barrett

Yet again we had an amazing day, with 43 musicians playing a range of pieces sourced and arranged by our conductor Paul Barrett. We thank all our participants and the organisers and helpers for making the event so enjoyable.

There were concertinas of all shapes and sizes. We had four piccolos, numerous trebles, twenty baritones and eight bass instruments, with a mixture of English, Anglo and Duet concertinas. People came from far and wide to play wonderful music together and to eat cake! Yet again we were spoilt for choice with the tempting cakes on offer and we are greatly indebted to the clever bakers in our group. We were pleased that Steve Dickinson joined us for the day and was able to perform a few "running repairs".

There were ten different tunes for us to get our fingers around and we had a lot of fun playing them, especially Four Horns on a Foggy Evening, which we played just using baritone and bass instruments. The effect of this was magnificent as you can hear in the recording.

We are very happy to have made the Stilton Pavillion our regular venue, with its excellent acoustics, central location and good range of facilities. We look forward to making more music together there again on 14th June next year.

Turn on (and off) each player in turn to hear some of the tunes we learnt during the day.
